Giving back is a practice that we not only preach at Braen Supply, Inc., but we practice. Although philanthropic activities here are often regional in scope, we always strive to support our local communities, first. Following the passing of Samuel Braen, Jr., in 1999, we endeavored to find a suitable way to honor the Company’s founder while allowing his legacy to live-on. We determined that creating a scholarship in his name would accomplish this goal, as well as promote the importance of higher education. Since 2000, Braen Supply, Inc., as a part of the Braen Family of Companies, has sponsored “The Samuel Braen, Jr. Memorial Scholarship” at Manchester High School in Haledon, Eastern Christian High School in North Haledon and Ramapo Regional High School in Franklin Lakes. These scholarships have assisted many local students with the burden of paying for college.
We also promote the importance of giving back to our employees. Through our matching gifts program, all employees are able to have the Company donate a monetary gift annually to a non-profit organization of their choice. Since 2003, the Company has donated to many organizations on behalf of our employees. Scholarships and matching gifts are just two specific ways we give back. Some of the local organizations and/or events we support are; Haledon Day, Touch the World Youth Ministries, Paterson Habitat for Humanity, Oasis – A Haven for Women and Children, Eva’s Village, and Cancer Survival Day at St. Joseph’s Hospital. In addition, there are countless other contributions we make to fundraisers, tricky trays and building projects. The Braen Family and the Braen Family of Companies were truly honored to be presented with the 2007 Construction/Real Estate Good Scout Award by the Northern New Jersey Council, Boy Scouts of America. Receiving this award was especially important because of the Braen Family's existing relationship with the Boy Scouts that began about 50 years ago.
