Walls can be incorporated into almost any landscape design for either aesthetic or functional purposes. A wall installed for decorative purposes only can be considered a landscaping wall whereas a wall installed for functional purposes can be considered a retaining wall.

Landscaping walls are typically built 24” high or under and can be made of natural stone or manufactured concrete products. A landscaping wall can be used to enhance the overall landscape design without having to serve a structural purpose. Further, landscaping walls add contrast of textures and color to a property.

Retaining walls are typically built 24” high or greater and can be made of natural stone, brick, manufactured concrete products or poured concrete. Very often a poured concrete retaining wall is faced with another product for aesthetic purposes. A retaining wall is generally installed to provide support and to prevent soil erosion when the property grade is uneven. Installing a retaining wall will create two or more level planes, eliminating a pre-existing slope. To learn more about retaining walls, visit Wikipedia
